Before getting to deep into this post, I've felt as though there's more people requesting to be traded this year than any other year. Again, this is a feeling. It doesn't mean that it's the truth. With that being said, in this post I will be talking about the three players noted on the title of this post. But also share other possible players and who I would like to see also possibly be traded and why. So without further ado let's get into it.
A.J Brown:
This has been a drama well played out at this point. The trade drama surrounding A.J Brown feels overdue at this point. And as an Eagles fan myself feels tiring and just annoying at this point. Why? Well when you have a team that has as much talent as the Eagles and a star receiver that continues to bring drama in with cryptic responses to questions by the media, or even on their own personal social media account it makes you wonder. Does this player actually want to be with the team?
Though he claims he's happy in Philadelphia. As well as coaches speaking up that they love him. Yet, Siriani came out recently saying something in the realm of he has no control of what's going to happen with AJ. Makes you wonder if he's even wanted. Yes, he's a talented wide receiver one who has eclipsed a thousand yards the four seasons he's been with the birds. With last season being the lowest total yards of the bunch with only 1,003 yards. He's still a force to be reckoned with at the age of 28 turning 29 this summer before the season starts.
So what can we expect here? Honestly, I don't think he gets traded this year. Would the Eagles get a good package in trading him this year. Yes? Maybe no... The truth is a down year like last year is going to give teams the thoughts that they can get Brown at a discounted price. Which let's be honest here, with the contract that the Eagles handed him would cause the Eagles to sink for a bit of time. Now however it looks like we have another first time OC in Sean Mannion. Who I personally believe could only be an upgrade from Patullo. This OC is young and has actually played in the league. On top of that he coached under Matt LaFleur. Which is considered one of the best offensive minded coaches in the league.
In my conclusion I think we see AJ Brown stick around for another season. I think that Sean Mannion will try and utilize him more. Also draw up plays that will allow Brown to get open in the short to medium routes to utilize his run after the catch ability that he was well known for even coming from his time from the Titans. I think that the amount of money tied into his contract is going to be the thing that keeps him around. But to make someone like him happy. The OC is going to have to get him the ball, and the quarterback has to be quick and decisive when throwing the ball.
Tremaine Edmunds:
Let's talk about this here. Read an article that the Bears are allowing Edmunds to seek a trade. After just 2 seasons with the Bears this young and still in his prime linebacker wants out of the windy city. Yes, with Edmunds finding a team that would trade for him will free up cap space for the Bears. My question becomes why? At 27 only turning 28 years old in May. Why not keep around your leading tackler on a defense that was really good? Yes, the Bears can draft or trade for another linebacker if they want to. But to get rid of a player you paid top dollar at the time to be one of if not THE leader of your defense. To turn around and allow him to seek a trade is wild.
I will say this with career numbers like 900 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 14 interceptions, 59 pass deflections, and a single defensive touchdown. I doubt it'll be hard to find a new home with another team. The question now becomes, what team has the available cap and also will it be a contender? The Bears making it to the playoffs last season was a shock to me personally. But then again all of last season had plenty of surprising moments. And teams making the playoffs with first year coaches and turning bad teams around almost immediately.
Two teams that I see most likely and capable of trading for Edmunds and can handle his salary would be the Bengals and the Commanders. With the Broncos coming in last place as a team I can see trading and even benefitting from getting Edmunds. The Bengals have or at least are going to have the 7th highest cap available with 52.7 million dollars. The need for a defender in the middle of their defense has been a long time coming. Trading for Edmunds immediately upgrades their defense and helps them hopefully get back to playoffs. Clearly there's more than just trading for Edmunds that would need to happen for the Bengals to get back to the playoffs. But this can be considered a step in the right direction for their defense.
Second team the Commanders with the 5th highest cap space at 66.5 million surely have the wiggle room to trade and possibly even sign him to a long term contract. Last season Washington failed miserably, and as an Eagles fan it was great to honestly watch. Though I do believe that Washington has a talented team overall. They are missing some pieces with other pieces just being out of their prime. Adding a player like Edmunds would help bolster their defense. But let's be honest here more than anything it was more of an issue of health and a second year regression from their quarterback that led to their seasons demise.
Lastly and quickly we have the Broncos. Having 26 million dollars available is more than enough to trade for Edmunds. The question becomes, do they actually need him? I think he would be an upgrade for the middle of that defense. How big of an upgrade? I don't think a huge one. If the Broncos do trade for him it would be more like a statement trade more than anything.
Anthony Richardson:
In a season last year that saw quarterbacks that were once considered franchise players. Then tossed away like a bag of unwanted clothes. To then find a new home with a new purpose and new swag. You can't blame Trent Richardson wanting to be with another team and leave the team that drafted him. Drafted because of his raw talent and measurables, Richardson never became what the Colts needed; their franchise quarterback. His inconsistencies and health has plagued his short career so far. But only being 23 you can see why he wants to get away. He's still young enough to possibly get a chance to start again under the right circumstances. Yet, the question becomes is he or will he be a franchise quarterback in this league?
There are teams with needs at quarterback this season like almost every season. But the question for him to answer is what team is willing to give him another chance as a starter? Him being drafted to the Colts wasn't the worst case scenario if you ask me. The Colts had a decent team around Richardson. Their biggest flaw was probably their O-Line that could never stay healthy but when they were they above average at best. Drafting a quarterback like Richardson with his physical ability was a no brainer for a Colts team trying to get back into the playoffs. At 6'4 and 245lbs with a rocket of an arm and mobility that doesn't make sense for being that big. You could understand why Indy to their chance.
That chance however didn't workout for them. But I can tell you what did, signing Daniel Jones who was balling before his injury. Which honestly if you ask me, looks more suited to play in the Colts offense than Anthony Richardson. Richardson's stats are truly abismall. Then again there's a small sample size to go with.
Yet, the time given to him to show case he is the franchise quarterback has proven and produced nothing. The differences between a Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, Baker Mayfield, and some others I can't think about right now. Is either they've made it to the playoffs, were in the worst possible situation and when given the best has showed why they were first rounders in the first place. Maybe a change of scenery will help Richardson, or maybe just maybe he's just not good.
Teams I do think would take a chance on him. Vikings, Cardinals, Falcons, and Steelers. Quick reasons for why I think they would take a chance on him. The Vikings let Sam walk and saw him win a Superbowl. JJ McCarthy so far hasn't panned out for them. And Anthony can be a low risk high reward kind of thing for them. The Cardinals are looking to more than likely find a way to get rid of Kyler Murray. His contract and cap hit would work against the Cardinals but at a cheap option you have a younger quarterback with a possibly high ceiling if they can put everything together in Richardson. Falcons could trade for him for little to nothing just bringing in competition for Penix since Kirk will be on his way out. Then you have the Steelers that for some reason love giving quarterbacks a bunch of chances. With Aaron Rodgers possibly coming back or not who knows now a days. Having a young quarterback like Richardson and drafting another one in the draft might be the go to move here. Low risk possibly high reward if it turns out well for the Steelers.
Kyler Murray:
This here is part of the added bonus, and these additional players are short thoughts to try and not bore you too much. There's been years of drama surrounding Kyler Murray. From not watching films to only playing video games and so on. I personally always said he's too short to play the position. Yet, he's played it for some time now. Still I think he's mediocre at best as a quarterback. I do think though there are teams willing to take a chance on him. Possibly the Steelers, Falcons, Jets, and maybe some others I can't think of right now. The problem is not teams more than likely willing to take a chance on him. But his contract and the amount of money he's owed. That contract was a terrible contract. And the Cardinals are paying for it immensely.
Max Crosby:Rumors are he may not be going anywhere. But if I'm being honest Crosby deserves better. The truth is he is probably the best player on that team and has been now for some time. I would love for him to be traded out of there to a contender. You got the Rams that can use a player like Crosby, now how would it workout with their cap? I have no idea. Or maybe to their neighbors who have a good enough cap space in the Chargers. Outside of that unless the Titans and Jets get it together he's better off staying in Vegas. There are other teams that are in need of his services. But not all the teams have the cap space to make it happen.
