NFC East: One Upgrade Every Team Can Benefit From

Before going into this group of NFC teams and an upgrade I think they need that will help their teams. I want you to be aware that I will being doing one of these for each division and each team. Keep in mind these are my personal opinion as a casual sometime more than casual football enthusiast. However I do believe that in most cases most of you would agree with me. So enough with the chit chat and let's get into it.

Philadelphia Eagles:

Oh... my beloved birds! If you haven't read my other posts which aren't many at this point. You wouldn't have known that I am a big or you can consider me as a diehard Eagles fan. So when it comes to this team specifically I can go on almost forever. But, in the spirit of writing this post and the other teams that are going to be on this post. I will do my absolute best to not be bias. Yet, I will be more than likely harsh on my own team.Since clearly we failed to have a repeat with much drama being stirred up throughout the season. But enough of that, let's get into the reason you came to read this.

The Eagles ended their season going 11-6. Which let's be honest wasn't bad. Yet, a lot of those wins would've easily been loses. The offense was inconsistent, with play calling being in most cases abismall and in many times made no sense. Then the defense in the beginning of the season had moments where it made me wonder if we were going to be any good. Great news! The defense is the thing that got us to an 11 win season if I'm being quite honest here. This chart under will show you a lot but also not the whole story.

If I'm being quite honest, anyone that sees these numbers would immediately say the offense has a bunch of holes that can use upgrading. Though the truth is it really didn't. The Eagles brought back almost everyone on the offensive side from the Superbowl winning team. With basically only Mekhi Becton going to another team via free agency. So we can honestly say this wasn't the problem. I think personally there is no position that needs an immediate upgrade on the offensive side.

Going into the defensive side however the there was a weakness and it had gotten better as the season went on. Though the Eagles have two studs at cornerback in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. The truth is that the Eagles can upgrade the second outside cornerback position. The fact is Cooper DeJean plays the slot and sometimes if needed plays outside and safety. But his expertise is honestly in the slot. Having another stud cornerback on the outside opposite of Mitchell would elevate the Eagles defense to another level that would easily make them possibly the best defense in the league. Yes, we can easily use a rusher. But the team we currently have now and what Howie will more than likely do. Upgrading the cornerback position would be the biggest upgrade that can be made at this point if you ask me personally.

Dallas Cowboys:

Where do we start? Their offense shined, and could also use some upgrades in certain positions. All in all however their offense was good to really good when they were running on all cylinders. I can't dismiss the acquisition of George Pickens and how much better it made the Cowboys offense. But if anyone had watched the Cowboys last season, any amount of games. You could almost immediately tell that their weakness wasn't really their offense. Both scoring defense and passing defense the Cowboys came in last place. With their total defense coming in at 30 which is only two spots to last place as well. Their rushing defense wasn't the best, but it was the only bright part of it ranking at 23.

Tell me what do you see in the chart? I can tell you what I see. And what I see is a major flaw on their defense. Bland was honestly their most consistent CB. But ranking 46th of 114 is not good at all, especially if you're the number 1 CB on your team. Yes, the cowboys defensive play calling was not good either. Yet, talented teams tend not to be this bad defensively. The truth of the matter is the Cowboys got rid of their best player via trade.

Made a mess of the whole thing and didn't even get close to the decent defensive play they had in 2024. So we can clearly agree and say that CB is a most to upgrade to get this team and defense going in the right direction again. Whether it's through free agency or the draft. They must make moves for this position. Which honestly I think will be the case. Because I have read around that Jerry Jones is willing to spend this off-season. Now how true is that? I have no idea. But the fact of the matter is that he should. They are at least at the time of me writing this placed the franchise tag on Pickens and are looking to sign him to a long-term contract. Let's just see if he's willing to spend on the positions they need the most.

New York Giants:

The Giants were a strange team last season. But this season coming, I think they are a team to watch. And trust me when I say this, as an Eagles fan it hurts me to say that. The fact is signing a coach like John Harbaugh is nothing to sleep on. The Giants clearly had some weaknesses on both sides of the ball. But I would dare to say that their record is more of a reflection of the coaching that was going on there. Their offense ranked in total offense at 13 with their rushing offense being the brightest of the bunch ranking at no.5.

I personally think that the Giants have a lot of talent of both the offense and defense, I think like I said earlier it came down to the coaching. This is  young team and I think Brian Daboll made some head scratching decisions to try and keep his job. Which clearly didn't work. Jaxson Dart maybe their franchise quarterback. Yet, it's still too early to say. However we can't say that the young player isn't talented.

Their defense though being ranked 28th did have some bright spots. Their passing defense was not the worst. But we can't say the same about their rushing defense. Now most would say that their top priority should be their offensive line. Which I could see why and wouldn't argue much against. Allowing a 37.5% pressure rate ranking 21st isn't great. Especially while having a young signal caller. Yet, I don't think their terrible and believe great coaching can help their O-Line. But I will say adding another DT to their defense that can help the run would probably show a significant improvement almost immediately. I think the Giants need to find someone else to Dexter Lawrence to fill the gaps against the run. This will help immensely.

Washington Commanders:

Oh boy, where do I start with this team? To be honest this may be the shortest of the bunch. This team had the oldest average roster in the league. What does this mean? Well if you watched any of their games you can tell that father time was against a lot of their players. As well as the injury bug plaguing a lot of their players as well. If I'm being honest here there's a lot that they have to upgrade. Having an aging team in the NFL really isn't a good thing. Yes, you want to have veteran presence to help guide and teach the next generation of talent. But when your team is basically older vets you need to look at what you're doing wrong if I'm being honest.

Again being a team the is on the higher end in average age you could say upgrading every position is was needs to happen. But in this post we're just calling one position that can HELP a team immediately. For the Commanders getting an edge rusher is a must. This team was in the bottom tier in pressure rate. And the brightest part of their pas rush came from a 36 year old Von Miller. And don't get me wrong love Von Miller. In his prime he was a menace to O-Lines. But he is a shell of his prime. Getting an edge rusher will help this defense and hopefully get the Commanders back in the right direction. Still there's a lot of upgrading they need to do.

NFC North: One Upgrade Every Team Can Benefit From

Before going into each NFC team and an upgrade I think they need that will help their teams. I want you to be aware that I will being doing one of these for each division and each team. Keep in mind these are my personal opinion as a casual sometime more than casual football enthusiast. However I do believe that in most cases most of you would agree with me. With that being said I will add that in this division as it stands moves do need to be made to free up cap space. So as of writing this post these teams are projected to be in the negative in cap space. However there are moves they can make to free a decent amount. So enough of the chit chat let's get into it.  Chicago Bears:  A big surprise if you ask me last season. This team stepped up and went 11-6 number one in their division winning the NFC North title. But with everything they did right and all the talent they had on their team there's a few things going on at least at this moment that makes you wonder if the...

Trade: David Montgomery A Texans!

With the start of free agency looming not to long from now. If you didnt know it starts on the 11th of this month. Teams are trying to get started early by making some trades. Clearly trading a player is sometimes if not most times the best option for most teams. There's compensation for giving a player away. Whether it's draft picks that can help them find hidden gems or even possibly just upgrade a position slightly. To getting a better and more needed position upgraded. A trade will benefit a team much more.  That leads us to now. David Montgomery was traded to the Houston Texans yesterday. What the Lions get in return? A 4th and 7th round pick and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs. I think a lot of people would say that this would be considered a fair trade. The Texans without Joe Mixon had little to no running game last season coming in at 22nd in rushing offense. Now I know, you may think that isnt bad. But when your lead rusher only ran for 703 yards on 196 att...
