Mike Evans isn't looking to throw in the towel and retire; he is planning to play in the 2026 season. After an injury prone 2025 and seeing his receiving yards dip under 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. We can see a reason for a come back. At just 32 years old some would wonder if he had enough left in the tank. A consistent force for the bucks in the 12 seasons he's played there. That was followed with 6 pro-bowls and a Super Bowl championship. You can only wonder if the Bucs are interested in resigning their once star receiver.
Their last contract was for 2 years for $41 million dollars. With him being a unrestricted free agent I doubt he wouldn't have teams drawn to him. Being a first round pick in 2014 and amounting 13,052 yards in 12 seasons is not something you just dismiss. Yes, you can state his age and his last year dealing with injuries and being available for 8 games. However to throw away all that he's accomplished would be silly. As a known competitor by his peers I highly doubt he would want to go out this way.
Possible Suitors:
Ravens:
One of the first teams to come to mind for a savvy vet that has proven his worth in the league would be the Ravens. Yes, they had Deandre Hopkins on their roster last season and didn't amount to much last season. Yet, Evans being a year younger and through his career being very available and not always being the only player on the team to throw to has helped with wear and tear. The Bucs had always had other players to take some weight off of Evans; where with Deandre Hopkins was the sole star player and receiver for a long time with the Texans before his journey with other teams. So this can be something for the Ravens to look into.
Chiefs:
With Tyreek Hill being released I know there's a lot people calling for him to head back to the Chiefs. But outside of that they have a receiver in Rashee Rice that has had some history with law enforcement. I think bringing in a veteran like Mike Evans would be ideal for the receiver room as well as giving them a receiver with a resume that speaks for itself. The Chiefs Super Bowl window feels like it's closing to me. Having Evans and giving him a chance to win another Super Bowl feels like a no brainer. And imagine bringing back Tyreek Hill too?! Imagine Pat with Tyreek, Rashee, and Evans and his trio. I know the cap may say otherwise, but still can be possible.
49ers:
The 49ers have lived and died by a really good to great defense when healthy. As well as a tight end in George Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey for quite sometime now. The truth is on offense having only two playmakers and at any given time one going down has put their offense to struggle immensely when it has mattered most. With the Brandon Ayuk issue and Deebo Samuel having been shipped away. Their offense have become super one dimensional. I'm not saying that Mike Evans would be the puzzle piece they're missing to get over the hump. But having a vet receiver like Evans when healthy would be a welcome change giving Brock Purdy another playmaker on the offense. Plus I think we all know the 49ers are probably going to be shopping around for a WR whether in free agency or draft. Why not sign a proven starter?
Bills:
Another team with what seems to be a closing window. How? You may ask, well the coaching decisions may have just failed this team all together. Letting go of Sean McDermott and hiring the OC Joe Brady was one of the most confusing and weirdest things I've seen in a coaching firing and hiring within a team. However, Joe is a familiar face to this Bills team, and as long as there isn't any crazy changes it means this team should be back in the playoffs this season. Which leads us to Mike Evans. Josh Allen has rarely had consistency in his time in Buffalo with receivers. His best receiver was Stefon Diggs and that was that. He's always had decent to good tight ends. And a running back in Dalvin Cook that is now starting to make a statement. Yet, what he's been missing since Diggs was shipped out is a reliable receiver. Signing Evans would be a smart move as well as possibly bringing another receiver whether through free agency or the draft. Allen needs playmakers and help if the Bills are looking to get over the hump.
Clearly there are other teams that can use Mike Evans to help their offense. Like the Bucs probably resigning him to what more than likely be a team friendly contract. Or even a one year contract and hoping that he retires after that. But the teams above I believe can use him and he can help them with their offensive woes. I'm not saying he's the piece that would get them to the Super Bowl. But if healthy and he does get back to Mike Evans we know. He would easily upgrade any of those offenses. Helping them further to get to their goal of winning a Super Bowl.
